Gardaí recover family car and child's wheelchair after theft in Meath
The wheelchair is specially adapted to fit Kyle Fitzgerald’s posture.

GARDAÍ HAVE RECOVERED the car of a family in Co Meath after it was stolen in the early hours of this morning.
The car, owned by Janine and Rory Fitzgerald, contained a specially adapted wheelchair that belongs to their six-year-old son Kyle, who was born with cerebral palsy.
Gardaí have now confirmed that the car and all of its property – including Kyle’s wheelchair – has been recovered. They said it is “on its way back to its rightful owner”.
The chair is specially adapted to fit Kyle’s posture. His parents had said if it was not returned, it would take a number of weeks to replace.
His father Rory told TheJournal.ie this morning that his son was “completely housebound” after the theft.
“The wheelchair is Kyle’s legs and mobility; it’s his independence,” he said.
“For a kid that’s already disabled, to take that off him is a real kick in the stomach.”
A garda appeal this morning was widely shared on social media and gardaí have thanked the public for their assistance with the recovery of the stolen items.
